Nightmares Give Way to Dreams

A program helps children of incarcerated parents find hope and healing.

“My parents have been in jail since I was in kindergarten. I never had a dad to teach me right from wrong, never had a mom to tuck me in at night. I only had the streets.” - Fabian Rivera

Fabian Rivera, 17, stood onstage at the Charter Oak Cultural Center in Hartford, looking out at a sea of faces and gathering the courage to bare his soul.

Services for Offenders and their Families

When offenders are arrested and go to jail, they're not the only ones affected - their families are too. And, for many, the arrest is just another stress for an already overburdened family. Without help, many fall apart.

Offenders who do not have positive family support often re-offend, and tragically, studies show that their children are likely to repeat the cycle. The economic and social cost to communities are enormous.

Our agency was founded to stabilize the family in crisis and to provide meaningful opportunities for change. We focus on the dynamics of the family unit and the significant role that family relationships play to help offenders rebuild their lives. Our services are an important addition to the criminal justice system's own efforts to reduce crime and to prepare offenders to be productive members of their communities.

"We already had serious problems when he got arrested. I knew if we were going to make it as a family, we needed help. Families in Crisis changed our lives."
